An enigmatic bronze coin with Artemis and her stag
Lot 307
ASIA MINOR. Uncertain. Circa 2nd-1st centuries BC. AE (Bronze, 15 mm, 2.69 g, 10 h). Head of a stag to right. Rev. Draped bust of Artemis to right with arrowhead before; all within wreath. A very interesting issue of beautiful style. Minor flatness, otherwise, good very fine.

Exactly where this enigmatic coin was issued is uncertain, as it bears no ethnic and the unspecific types - Artemis and a stag - seriously hamper a closer attribution. The wonderfully detailed rendering of Artemis' animal on such a small die, however, is certainly very attractive
